Good Thing it Didn’t Count, Bengals fall to Bucs

Not much to say or add to that game on Monday night. It is what it is. Another primetime loss for Marvin Lewis and the Bengals. Great, we’ll get to hear that narrative at least until Friday. In the grand scheme of things, the outcome doesn’t matter. You had a Bucs team opening up at home for the first time with new QB Winston Jameis. Ok so they probably came out of the locker room a little pumped about playing in front of their fans. What really matters is that in this game on Monday night, the Bengals came away relatively injury free and AJ McCarron made his long overdue debut as an NFL quarterback. Buckle up Bengals fans, this ride’s about to get bumpy. On to the show!

In this week’s show:

We welcomed Mickey back to the program after a long hiatus. We also tried our best to calm Bengals fans nerves after that poor performance on Monday Night Football. But it’s the Preseason. This reaction video from a few years ago perfectly sums up how I felt about the Bengals afterwards.

AJ McCarron made his debut as a Bengals quarterback and held his own, mostly against the Bucs 3rd and 4th stringers. Wonder how he would fare against another team’s 1’s and 2’s? We probably won’t know unless something drastic happens to the Red Rifle.

Bengals Win, 5 Years of Inside the Jungle

When I came up with the idea of starting a Bengals podcast back in 2010, I never in my wildest dreams thought the show would ever become what it is today. My buddy Andy Barch and I set out to record the first episode right around the time Terrell Owens signed with the Bengals. That might have been the worst year to start a Bengals podcast. We endured a 10 game losing streak, we thought Marvin Lewis’s contract wouldn’t be renewed and little did we know that we would never see Carson Palmer again in a Bengals uniform that first season. But here we are years later. Marvin’s still coaching this team and they haven’t missed the playoffs since Palmer quit on them. It’s been a great journey these 5 years. The show’s been a Podcast Awards finalist 4 years running and we’ve become friends with Bengals fans around the world. Here’s to the next 5 years of Inside the Jungle!

In this week’s show:

Anthony, Scott and I recap the Bengals 23-10 win over the New York Giants on Friday night. Which players stood out the most to you?

To help us celebrate 5 years of Inside the Jungle, Bengals radio play-by-play voice Dan Hoard joins us to give us his thoughts on how Training Camp has gone as well as Friday’s night’s thumping of the Giants.

We received 3 great listener emails this week with some awesome questions.

Plus it wouldn’t be Inside the Jungle without your calls. We have the best callers in the podcasting world. We love hearing from you!

We also hear from a certain Bengals wide receiver who I believe is an absolute LOCK to make the Bengals roster here in a few weeks. (shoutout to Brennen Warner for making that happen!)

WNR: Bengals Preseason Kicks Off

The Bengals preseason kicks off Friday night against the New York football Giants. I know it’s just a preseason game but it’s hard not to get excited about this team. This Bengals roster is one of the deepest and best in the NFL. What are you most looking forward to on Friday night? Which positions will you be watching the closest? As long as the Bengals come out relatively healthy, that’s all that matters to me. On to the show!

In this week’s show:

Anthony, Scott and I recap the latest news surrounding Bengals Training Camp.

We each discuss the things we’re going to be looking closest at in Friday’s game against the Giants.

We also give our #BoldPredictions for Friday’s game as well as a score predictions.

WNR: Bengals Training Camp Kicks Off

One of the biggest perks to recording this podcast each and every week is the chance the 4 of us get to meet Bengals fans like you. It’s amazing the common bond we all share despite our vast distances from one another. Fadil is a fan of ITJ from Dubai. Kurt in Asheville. Josh in South Philly/Jersey. Mike Vardy up in British Columbia. Let’s not forget Mike and the WHODEY UK crew across the pond. Seriously it’s remarkable to think about the fact that there are fans of the Bengals and this podcast around the globe. The power of podcasting!

In this week’s show:

Anthony, Scott and I take a deep breath and exhale as we discuss the injury of Michael Johnson. Is this a bad sign 5 days into Training Camp? Or did the Bengals dodge a massive bullet?

We also took a few moments to discuss some of the play at the WR and CB spots. It looks like those two position groups for the Bengals have been very competitive in camp so far.

I was fortunate enough to interview longtime supporter and Associate Producer Mike Vardy this past weekend in Fort Worth at Podcast Movement. He’s been a longtime Bengals fan in Canada since the 80’s! He does great work with his podcast, The Productivityist as well.

We take your calls and we hear from new folks AK in Tallahassee, Brennen in Virginia and Phil from Cincy.

WNR: Bengals Rookies Report to Camp

It’s here it’s here it’s finally here! Training Camp has started for the rookies as they reported to Paul Brown Stadium earlier this week! Actual football will be commencing very very shortly. Have you been studying up for your fantasy drafts? Which of these rookies are you most looking forward to seeing play this fall for the Bengals? August is nearly here! On to the show!

In this week’s show:

We welcomed Scott back to the program this week and immediately gave an outlook on some of the Bengals rookies. Which Bengals rookie will make the biggest impact this fall?

We reviewed some of the interesting comments made at the annual preseason Media Luncheon at Paul Brown Stadium.

The Brandon Tate bet I’ve made with friend of the show Cody and Scott just got a little bit easier for me this week with the news that James Wright was put on IR by the Bengals.

WNR: Burfict Timing

One more week! Training Camp is just around the corner! Which battles are you most looking forward to watching over the next few weeks? What do you want to see from the Bengals in their preseason games? Which player who missed significant time in 2014 will have the biggest impact here in 2015? It’s all shaping up to be a great next few weeks here in the Queen City. Can the Bengals continue their postseason streak? I think at this point a win in Oakland is the more important step. On to the show!

In this week’s show:

We welcomed Mickey back to the program this week and immediately jumped into Vontaze Burfict’s tweet that sent Bengals fans into a frenzy on Twitter. Good news for Tez?

We took some phone calls from our usual regulars, Greg from Cincy, John from Kentucky, Fatal Content down in South Beach and James in Cincy.

Mickey’s post this week regarding the biggest Bengals bust in the Super Bowl era was a fun debate. What say you?

WNR: Boo? Boo You!

It really is true. In Cincinnati, we can’t have nice things can we? Here we are, the town has the national spotlight for a few days. The All Star game was a spectacle. The Home Run Derby was amazing and oh by the way won by the hometown slugger. Yet, the headlines that seemed to dominate the week was that the quarterback for the Bengals got booed by the hometown fans at the celebrity softball game. How embarrassing is that? I don’t care that Andy Dalton craps himself in the postseason or in primetime. Boo him all you want on the field. I didn’t know that paying for your ticket to a softball exhibition game gave you the right to boo someone who at that point hadn’t even done anything wrong but apparently show up. It’s not like he made an error in the field that cost you a run or two. He simply showed up. That’s disappointing and incredibly embarrassing. Get it together Cincy. You’re better than that.

In this week’s show:

We welcomed AC back to the program this week and immediately jumped into the boo birds piece he wrote. Great read I might add.

Andy Benoit’s recent QB rankings on MMQB at Sports Illustrated pits Bengals quarterback Andy Dalton 20th in the NFL. 20th? C’mon.

Dez Bryant and Demaryius Thomas both reach deals with their clubs for 5 years and $70 million. So what does this mean for the Bengals and AJ Green moving forward?

Plus your calls!

WNR: Early Bengals Roster Debate

We hope everyone had a happy and SAFE 4th of July weekend. If we learned any lessons over this past weekend, fireworks are dangerous. It might be best to leave them to the professionals. Now that it’s July, it’s time to start diving into these roster debates. Of course no one knows how the preseason will play out but that’s what makes this game fun. In other news around the world, the NFL has an agreement to play some games at Tottenham Hotspur’s new stadium starting in 2018. I know many of you fans across the pond are hoping to see the Bengals make the trek across the Atlantic. Maybe someday it will happen. I don’t see it happening soon though. Well, now that I’ve rained on that parade why don’t we get the show started shall we?

In this week’s show:

We welcomed Mickey back to the program and discuss Wednesday’s news surrounding two NFL players and fireworks.

We took a look at Jason Marcum’s article outlining some of the key roster battles on offense.

We played #PickYourPoison again, this week asking who makes the final roster? Rex Burkhead or James Wilder, Jr? Vote below!

We discussed Mickey’s recent CincyJungle.com article. Who is the best WR in the AFC North? AJ Green or Antonio Brown?

The Bengals are 33-1 odds to win Super Bowl 50 according to Bovada.

WNR: Do the Bengals Need Another WR?

What’s up what’s up! It’s time now to kickoff the next 200 episodes of this bad boy! Big thanks to everyone who left us feedback about the show and last week’s 200th episode. An even BIGGER thanks to everyone who went out and downloaded our new Inside the Jungle podcast app! On this week’s show we revisited something that Geoff Hobson mentioned last week on our show. Is there a need for another WR on this team? What if everyone stays healthy in 2015? Knowing the Bengals luck, that’s not likely. On to the show!

In this week’s show:

We took a few minutes at the beginning of the show to reflect on what was an awesome 200th episode. We also thanked everyone for the tremendous feedback regarding last week’s show.

We took a look at NFL.com’s recent article giving the Bengals 4 players making the All-AFC North squad. Congrats to Kevin Zeitler, Andrew Whitworth, AJ Green and Geno Atkins. I know that trophy’s going somewhere on their mantle.

Dre Kirkpatrick made some interesting comments regarding the Bengals this week on the Rich Eisen Show.

We introduced a new segment on this week’s show called “Pick Your Poison”: Last roster cuts on the Bengals defensive line, right now who would you pick? Pat Sims or Margus Hunt?

WNR: The Big 200

It feels like yesterday I was bugging my best friend Andy Barch to start a Bengals podcast with me. Andy and I spent 4.5 years at BGSU learning about radio, covering the Falcons, doing play-by-play and color commentary during athletic events. The hard sell was the fact that Andy is a die hard Packers fan. But he was a trooper and helped me to get this little podcast thing we call Inside the Jungle started. Now here we are 5 years later and we just wrapped up episode 200 of the show. It’s come a long way in those 5 years! Mostly because of YOUR support! We wanted to make 200 really special so hope you enjoy the episode. One of our best ever!

In this week’s show:

We welcomed Scott and Mickey back to the show this week. Scott was fortunate enough to get some great audio clips from his visit at last week’s Taste of the NFL. Dan Hoard’s was pretty awesome!

We welcomed Geoff Hobson from Bengals.com to the show. Geoff has been on the show more than any other guest we’ve ever had on. The best part was due to recent studio upgrades we were able to get Geoff’s call to sound crystal clear!

We made one more announcement about the show! Inside the Jungle now has its very own app! Download the app today in your app store of choice at the links below!

WNR: Getting a Taste of Minicamp

Mandatory Minicamps are underway this week at Paul Brown Stadium! More guys running around in shorts not hitting or tackling! Yippee! But seriously. With minicamp here it just means one thing, REAL FOOTBALL is just around the corner for these Cincinnati Bengals! We’ve got a great show in store for you this week. AC and I hold down the fort while Scott Bantel rubs elbows with the big wigs at the Taste of the NFL at Paul Brown Stadium. On to the show!

In this week’s show:

So I started the show off with an announcement regarding the future of Inside the Jungle. Starting with Episode 200 next week, our live broadcasts will go back to starting at 9 PM ET! I’m no longer working the graveyard 3rd shift, but now moving to 1st which means more time at night to record the show. With more time means now we can make this podcast even better!

AC and I visit with Scott Bantel on the Jungle-line as he calls in from Paul Brown Stadium and the Taste of the NFL. Scott got some great audio from the event and I look forward to playing it on next week’s episode.

We recap the latest news surrounding minicamp, including a dustup between two players and worrying news regarding Rex Burkhead’s iced knee.

AC fills us in on his brainchild, the Top 10 Breakout Players to Watch For in 2015. We reveal/discuss players 7-10.

Josh Johnson is getting more reps than Terrelle Pryor at this point? Plus Leon Hall taking some snaps at safety this week.

WNR: Swaggy

Hey hey another Wednesday night and the guys are back in action talking Bengals! Gotta love Wednesday’s! It’s the middle of June and with OTA’s coming to a close, Training Camp will be just around the corner! Not only that, our 200th Episode is in two weeks! Should we do something fun? Got any ideas? Please feel free to share them. This is after all YOUR show! Speaking of which, let’s get on with it!

In this week’s show:

We start the show off by discussing a recent ESPN article claiming that the Bengals roster has gotten worse this offseason. Last year at this time the team’s roster had a ranking of 7th. This year, 9th. Not THAT much of a dropoff. The issue at hand is the listed starters in the article. Burfict is in doubt to start the year and Mohamed Sanu, though a fine trick play QB, is NOT a starter at WR. Wonder how much that played into the ranking. You’d think folks would research these things…..

Jeremy Hill and Gio Bernard and the rest of the stable of RB’s on this Bengals roster are currently ranked 3rd….in the AFC. Yep, it’s the offseason. Can’t you tell?

From all accounts we’ve seen/heard during OTA’s, 2nd year CB Darqueze Dennard is making big strides and is improving. Writing on the wall for Leon Hall?

Plus, Andrew Whitworth says the Bengals need some “swagger”. Agree? Disagree? How do you EVEN get swagger?

If you have questions about subscribing to the podcast or need assistance downloading the show, please email me at insidethejungle@spnt.tv, I’ll be more than happy to help. As always we want YOUR feed back so please get in touch!

WNR: Peter King’s Cray Cray

The Fearsome Foursome are back this week! After a long hiatus for Mickey and Anthony’s vacation last week, it was good to get everyone back together to talk about the Bengals! It’s June which means Training Camp is just around the corner! After listening to the Reds game last night and hearing Aroldis Chapman blow the save against the Phils, I couldn’t help but think, yep, it’s Bengals season now. On to the show!

In this week’s show:

We welcome back Anthony and Mickey to the show this week. It was Mickey’s first show back since the Bengals signed Mr. Buckeye himself Terrelle Pryor. Since Mick’s our resident Buckeye fan on the panel we had to get his take.

We then got into some of the recent comments made by Sports Illustrated’s Peter King regarding the Cincinnati Bengals, more importantly about our quarterback Andy Dalton. In this article by King, he basically blames everything on the QB. Last I checked football was a team sport.

We take a look at the curious case of Margus Hunt. Is this a make or break training camp for the former olympian? We also discuss the absence of George Iloka. What’s really at play here with the safety?

We heard from Richard in Virginia, Keenan in Maryland, Doc Ox in NKY and Airport Kurt in Asheville, NC. Thanks for the calls gents!

Plus we gave our usual shoutouts!

WNR: OTA’s Means Summer is Here!

Organized Team Activities. Also known as OTA’s. If a bunch of men running around in tshirts and shorts playing touch football doesn’t get you excited, then I don’t know how else I can help you. This week’s show features a recap of all things Bengals, including the latest injury news. Plus we take your phone calls. Let’s go!

In this week’s show:

Scott and I start the show talking about the health of Marvin Jones, injured yet again. But the good news is that Tyler Eifert is 100% cleared! Yay!

Though Eifert has been cleared, there appears to be a long recovery road ahead for linebacker Vontaze Burfict.

We discuss the token Bengals article informing the general public about how much more vocal and how much more of a leader Andy Dalton’s become heading into his FIFTH SEASON.

The Houston Texans have been selected as the team participating in HBO’s brilliant series, Hard Knocks. You interested?

We also heard from John from KY, James from Cincy (formerly South Korea), and Doc Ox.

WNR: 10 Years of Podcasting

So I’ve got good news, bad news, and exciting news. The good news this week? Inside the Jungle is now a video podcast? What does that mean? It means you can now subscribe to an RSS feed that has the video of the live show we record on Wednesday nights. The bad news? Well, this week Google/Youtube decided to act up on us and not record/stream the episode. Bummer. The exciting news? Wednesday marked the 10-year anniversary of the very first podcast episode I ever published. The Tripsleft.com Sports Shorts debuted May 20, 2005. It was the first of over 500 podcast episodes recorded and produced. Here’s to another 10 years! On to the show!

In this week’s show:

We start the program off talking about the new feature of the podcast, a video RSS feed. If you’d like to subscribe to the video RSS, you can find it in iTunes or by clicking the links here. (Subscribe to Video-HD | Subscribe to Video-SD) Unfortunately due to technical issues, episode 195 will NOT have video in the RSS feed.

Anthony, Scott and I discuss the new NFL rule changes regarding the extra point. What are your thoughts? Does this excite you?

Apparently Bengals first round selection Cedric Ogbuehi may begin the 2015 NFL season on the PUP list. Is this good or bad?

To celebrate 10 years of podcast, I played a clip from the very first podcast episode I published 10 years ago. The Tripsleft.com Sports Shorts. Here’s the entire episode if you’re interested in listening! Click here.

WNR: The Newest Bengals QB

We’re back and better than ever this week on the podcast. For all you ITJ mom’s out there, from all of us here at the show and at CincyJungle.com we wish you a Happy Belated Mothers Day! We all hope your day was special! Speaking of special, the Bengals have a new quarterback on the roster! We get into that as well as the 2015 Bengals schedule on this week’s episode. Let’s Go!

In this week’s show:

We start the program talking about the new digs for the SPNT Studios. Studio 3.0 was revealed this week with some new studio equipment thanks to the many many Patreon contributions. I can’t thank each of you enough for your tremendous support for the show!

So former Ohio State Buckeye and Oakland Raiders quarterback Terrelle Pryor is your newest Bengal after being signed by the club last weekend. What do you make of the signing? Is this a potential look to the future past Andy Dalton 2016? The conspiracy theorist in Scott seems to think so. What say you?

We talk about Deflategate and the Patriots and discuss the BJGE factor in this equation. Guy seemed to start fumbling here in Cincy once he was playing with inflated balls. Oh, yeah that didn’t sound great.

Lastly we take a look at the 2015 home schedule and each pick the one game from outside the divisional opponents we’d most like to see. Hard to pass up Seattle coming to town. Am I right?

Plus we gave our usual shoutouts!

WNR: The Bengals Draft Well…Again

Huge thanks to everyone who turned out not just in person for our live draft show at Lachey’s Bar, but also the many of you who tuned in to the live stream and watched us on the web. We hope you enjoyed last week’s show as much as we did! We had planned to interview quite a few guests last week during our broadcast but unfortunately I couldn’t get the audio working properly. Lesson learned for the next live remote we decide to record. ON TO THE SHOW!

In this week’s show:

We start the show off with our initial thoughts on the Cedric Obueghi pick, coupled with the Jake Fisher pick in the 2nd round. Were you shocked that the Bengals went Tackle-Tackle in rounds 1 and 2?

We spend some time with Joe Goodberry, draft extraordinaire. This guy know’s his stuff and I think he’s one of the fast risers in the NFL Scouting world. He should be working somewhere for a team!

We discuss Andrew Whitworth’s reaction (or his wife’s) on social media to the Bengals drafting two solid Tackle’s in Round. Much ado about nothing?

We take some phone calls and Chris from Dayton’s not happy with the Bengals skipping over Randy Gregory. Chris sites this team’s lack of a pass rush as to his reasons for being upset with skipping Gregory. What say you?

Plus we gave our usual shoutouts!

WNR: Marv’s Contract Extension

The news of Brandon Tate’s return messed us up so much we had to take TWO WEEKS OFF from Inside the Jungle. Ok, I’m kidding. However there was some big news to come out of the Jungle on Wednesday with the announcement of Marvin Lewis’s contract extension through 2016. Not to mention the NFL released their 2015 schedule on Tuesday so what became an uneventful week all the sudden quickly filled up our show.

In this week’s show:

We start the show off with the news of Marvin Lewis’s contract extension through 2016. Is he deserving? Is this much ado about nothing? I’ll be honest, I wasn’t thrilled, wasn’t disappointed, I just kind of shrugged my shoulders and rolled along.

We gave our letter grades for Marvin’s injury riddled 2014 campaign. The consensus on the show is that Marvin had a pretty good year considering the circumstances.

We dig very briefly into the draft and offered up guys we’d like to see the Bengals select at 21.

DON’T FORGET!!!! Join us on April 30th (next Thursday night) for a special podcast meet-up at Lachey’s Bar in Over-the-Rhine. The meet-up will start at 6 PM and we’ll hang out at the bar, have some food and drinks. This will give us the chance to connect and have some fun leading up to our live show. After the meet-up we’ll fire up the mics and cameras and record our annual LIVE DRAFT SHOW at 8 PM ET. Come out, hang with the podcast crew and others from the Cincy Jungle staff as we await who the Bengals will be picking in Round 1. Should be a blast and we hope to see you out there!

WNR: No Fooling Here

There are no words to describe my emotions the day following April 1. April Fools Day roared around Paul Brown Stadium yesterday and all sorts of crazy ensued. Kudos to the Bengals for trolling the Browns and their logo ordeal. That joke certainly made for a quick distraction after the Bengals announced they had reached an agreement to bring back Special Teams ACE Return man Brandon Tate. I’m still waiting for the tweet to come from @Bengals saying, APRIL FOOLS. Though, I’m not surprised whatsoever. Here’s hoping Mr. Tate shuts us all up and has two or three 30-yard returns this upcoming season. On to the show!

In this week’s show:

I was pretty angry to start out the show talking about the signing of Brandon Tate. My blood is still boiling.

We discussed the signing of Pat Sims and Brandon Ghee.

We wrapped up our Position Group Series with the quarterback Andy Dalton and specialists Kevin Huber and Mike Nugent.

WNR: Grading the Bengals Running Backs

The Fearsome Foursome were back together again. It feels like it’s been a few weeks since the whole team was back for the podcast. Well, three weeks to be exact. This week’s show had a little of everything from the weeks news surrounding NFL Blackouts to wondering why the Bengals are mentioned as a team wanting to move to LA. It was an hour full of action packed Bengals chatter. What more can you ask for on the last Wednesday of March? On to the show!

In this week’s show:

We start off the show by discussing the newest policies put in place by the NFL this week at the Annual Meetings in Arizona. The biggest being the NFL Blackout Policy being lifted by a 31-1 vote. What a shocker, but can you guess who the one vote was? His name rhymes with bike frown. To be fair, he did have his reasons for voting against the policy which we discussed on the show.

We took a look back at the 2014 Bengals running backs. It’s hard not to get excited about this group moving forward but it’s even harder to imagine just how good this offense could have been had Hill been starting all along?

We heard from podcast superfan Greg from Cincinnati this week who called in asking about LA and could the Bengals ever move there?

MARK YOUR CALENDER: Join us on April 30th for a special podcast meet-up at Lachey’s Bar in Over-the-Rhine. The meet-up will start at 6 PM and we’ll hang out at the bar, have some food and drinks. WNR: He’s Back!

After a full week of Free Agency I think it’s safe to say that Bengals fans have calmed down quite a bit. After signing AJ Hawk, Rey Maualuga, Clint Boling, Mike Nugent AND Michael Johnson to new deals, they’ve kept their own and of course added depth at spots that were needed. I know that some of you had hoped that Nick Fairley would have signed with the Bengals but I think in the end getting MJ back in orange and black will be a big addition as well. There’s still time in Free Agency too so you just never know. Maybe Jermaine Gresham’s headed back to Cincy? Oh boy. We better start the show!

In this week’s show:

This week Mickey and I begin by discussing the newly signed Michael Johnson. We also take a look at the contract he signed and how he can get some significant bonuses based on performance. An extra four million for getting double digits sacks isn’t bad right?

The news this week surrounding Devon Still and his daughter Leah has been great! It also sounds like Still’s ready to sign a one-year deal to stay in Cincy as well.

We took your calls and discussed some proposed rule changes that are being thrown around this week at the NFL Annual Meeting.

WNR: Free Agency Begins

The new league year has begun and surprise the surprise the Bengals have been active in free agency…. Oh wait. To be fair, they have been. They re-signed two of their own free agents in Rey Maualuga and Clint Boling. They also signed Ohio native and lifelong Bengal fan A.J. Hawk who was recently released by the Packers. They had a meeting on Wednesday with former Detroit Lions defensive tackle Nick Fairley. They’re also looking into bringing Michael Johnson back to Cincy as well after his release in Tampa. So, again, they’ve been active in free agency. I think it was a bit unrealistic to think the Bengals would be in the running for any of the top premier talent in the free agency pool. But, they’ve made some moves at least.

In this week’s show:

We start the program off by visiting with Cody Tewmey (@codiki), one of our great contributors here at the site. He did some film breakdown of A.J. Hawk after he signed with the Bengals this week. He didn’t come away very impressed.

We discuss the possibility of the Bengals signing both Michael Johnson and Nick Fairley. If you can’t have both guys, and had to pick just one, who would you prefer the Bengals sign?

WNR: Grading the Bengals Wide Receivers

Another Wednesday night is in the books as we recorded another stellar (I might be overstating this) edition of Inside the Jungle. We received some great feedback from fans this week, particularly Bengals questions regarding free agency and our stud receiver AJ Green. If you want to chime in but can’t make the live show, or you’d like to have your questions or comments read on the air during this podcast, then you can always email me at insidethejungle@spnt.tv. We want to hear from YOU CincyJungle fans so get in touch! On to the show!

In this week’s show:

Mickey, Scott, Anthony and I discuss the recent news regarding the Podcast Awards. Thanks to your nominations our show has been named a finalist for the 4TH CONSECUTIVE YEAR! As always we face stiff competition from both ESPN, Dan Patrick, Chris Jericho…wait, what? Yes, that’s right. Anyway, don’t forget to vote everyday from now until March 24th at PodcastAwards.com.

We look back at the year that was for the 2014 wide receivers. It wasn’t great from the get go with Marvin Jones getting hurt and missing the entire season. AJ Green was, eh. I expect more from a 4th overall pick.

Would you be open to trading AJ Green for more draft picks? Our man Dan sent in an email with different scenarios that look promising but not likely.

Fadil also chimed in with a question about free agency and wide receviers. Which one do you think the Bengals SHOULD sign?

WNR: Grading the Bengals O-Line

There have been a lot of shock cuts this week by teams around the NFL. My favorite part of the year to be honest. I love getting feedback from fans around the world asking “Should we get him?” Well, yeah, but we (the Bengals) won’t. I keep hearing this offseason how things are going to change, and that it’s necessary. Call me Debbie Downer if you’d like but I’m not buying the hype, at least not yet. If they manage to sign someone of significance on Day 1 of Free Agency, then sure I’ll be excited. Until then, I’m moving forward with cautious optimism. Like every Bengals fan honestly should. ON TO THE SHOW!

In this week’s show:

Mickey, Scott, Anthony and I take a look at the 2014 Bengals Offensive Line. In 2014 they had a pretty solid year and Andrew Whitworth arguably had the best year of this good career. How do you think the Bengals offensive line fared in 2014?

We got a tweet this week from Josh asking if we’d be interested in recently release Packers linebacker AJ Hawk.

We hear from Antoine this week and he fills us in as to why he’s been missing the live show lately, glad he’s now got his priorities in check!

WNR: Grading the Bengals Tight Ends

Hey hey we’re back after a one week hiatus! We’re pumped to be back talking about the Bengals. I know a lot of your focus may be shifting towards Spring Training and the Reds but they seem to disappoint us just as much as the Bengals do every year. Maybe it’s a Cincinnati thing? Either way, it’s February and the NFL Scouting Combine is HERE! Get out your popcorn and find your spot on the couch and enjoy watching grown men sprinting, catching, lifting, shuttling in spandex all week. Ain’t it glorious? ON TO THE SHOW!

In this week’s show:

Mickey, Scott and I take a look at the 2014 Tight Ends and we focus primarily on three of them. Jermaine Gresham, Tyler Eifert and Mr. Hybrid himself Ryan Hewitt. Gresham had a sub par year from a yardage standpoint but was two receptions shy of tying his franchise single season record. The fumbles were down, and even some of the penalties. But we’re talking about Gresham, a first round talent that never really lived up to the billing. Do you want him back in Cincy next year? Do you think he’s good as gone in free agency? What say you?

We offer up our opinions on the combine. Can you tell we’re thrilled?

Major major major kudos to Scott Bantel this week. As you’ll hear on the show we had a huge announcement regarding our live draft show on April 30th! Scott nailed it!

WNR: Grading the Bengals Defensive Line

itjitunes_new300

Well the Seahawks certainly found a way to Bungle that Super Bowl. Am I right? Right, who am I to joke about the Seahawks? At least they know how to win in the postseason. It was a great game and a great way to cap off an “interesting 2014” to say the least. From Ray Rice and Adrian Peterson to Deflategate and “I’m just here so I don’t get fined.” the 2014 season will go down as one of the more memorable seasons in NFL history. Now on to the show!

In this week’s show:

Anthony, Scott and I discuss Super Bowl XLIX, the play at the end of the game and how dumb the playcall was despite Pete Carroll and the Seahawks defending it. Run. The. Ball.

We discuss some of the top priorities for the Bengals this offseason. We know the deficiencies at linebacker and on the defensive line, but where else should they focus on this offseason?

We continue our position group series and this week we take a look back at the Bengals defensive line and offer up our grades for 2014. It wasn’t pretty. How do you think this group fared this season? What letter grade would you give them?

WNR: Grading the Bengals Linebackers

It feels like yesterday we were celebrating the start of the 2014 season here on Inside the Jungle. Hard to believe that we’re down to the very last football game of the year. The Patriots and Seahawks kick things off Sunday night. Who you got? Do you care? Will you watch? Get in touch! On to the show!

In this week’s show:

The Pro Bowl was, eh. Apparently (since I didn’t watch) Andy Dalton did badly. Do you care?

Our old pal Jeff Blake, remember him? You know the guy who played quarterback in the last 90’s for this team and was the lone glimmer of hope in the lost decade? Well apparently he deflated his balls too. Slate had an interesting article about our old pal Mr. Reliable Benjarvus Green-Ellis and the Patriots fumbles, or lackthereof since the NFL relaxed the rules about the footballs. Coincidence? Maybe.

We continue our position group series and this week we take a look back at the Bengals linebackers and offer up our grades for 2014. How do you think this group fared this season? What letter grade would you give them?

WNR: Grading the Bengals Secondary

The fearsome foursome are back this week on the Wednesday Night Roundtable! For it being the offseason there was quite a bit to discuss this week on the program. Anthony spent the weekend at the NFLPA Bowl. Mickey was in Florida meeting an astronaut. And Scott, well, he spent the weekend painting. Hopefully we’re not as a boring as watching paint dry. ON TO THE SHOW!

In this week’s show:

News broke just before we recorded regarding some comments Marvin Lewis made to both Paul Dehner of the Cincinnati Enquirer and Geoff Hobson of Bengals.com. Marvin hinted that Mike Brown wasn’t too happy with the status quo and that changes were coming on the horizon. We discussed.

Don’t get us wrong, we love Geno Atkins and Andy Dalton, well some of us, but the Pro Bowl deserves big “c’mon man” for adding these two the rosters. They certainly did not have Pro Bowl years if we’re honest here. Kudos to them for making the big game. I think we’d rather that they had to turn it down because they’re playing next weekend.

We begin our position group series and this week we take a look back at the secondary and offer up our grades for 2014. How do you think this group fared this season? What letter grade would you give them?

WNR: Cardale Fever

It’s very ironic that our very own Mickey Mentzer misses the show this week and then we ultimately end up devoting an entire segment talking about Ohio State and Cardale Jones. DOH! Hopefully Mickey will be back next week to bask in his scarlet and gray glory. Congrats to the Buckeyes on winning an improbable championship. One thing you can’t argue about with the Buckeyes, at least their coach wins postseason games.

In this week’s show:

Anthony, Scott, and I discuss the Broncos firing of John Fox after continued postseason failure. Then we look at the Bengals and see constant postseason failure but no changes. Clearly just getting to the postseason isn’t good enough in Denver, so why is it good enough in Cincinnati? We discuss.

If you’re the Bengals, are you strongly looking at Cardale Jones? He has played in only 3 games but you can’t deny those 3 games and the 3 significant opponents. Not too many 3rd string quarterbacks can pull off what Cardale Jones just did.

Fadil from Malta asks us which Bengals free agent would you most like to have re-signed this offseason?

Anthony fills us in on his day at the NFLPA Bowl in Carson, CA.

We wrap up the show this week with the usual shoutouts.

WNR: 4 Times the Fun

Well, that sucked. While watching Sunday’s Wild Card loss to the Indianapolis Colts, there was an odd sense of calm in my house. A feeling of, been there done that. Honestly I did not even get upset while watching the game. Each time there was an incomplete pass I just simply took a deep breath and shrugged my shoulders. I would think to myself, yep, this is all too familiar. Big picture, Marvin Lewis has taken this team to 4 straight postseasons. That is a great. I’m just starting to wonder if that’s as far as he can take this team. What say you? On to the show.

In this week’s show:

Anthony, Scott, Mickey and I give our best and worst from Sunday’s loss to the Colts.

Should Marvin Lewis be retained as head coach? Is there someone available right now in the “coaching circles” that you know for a fact would do better than Lewis has? What if he leaves and the team reverts back to 90’s Bengals? Yikes.

The four of us are playing Playoff Survivor. You get to pick one team to win this weekend. Who ya got?

We wrap up the show this week with the usual shoutouts!

Inside the Jungle – Episode 177 – Christmas Edition

Apparently Santa got my note last week! What a win by the Cincinnati Bengals. What’s that? Oh they can’t win in primetime? Oh Andy Dalton can’t win in primetime? Oh Peyton Manning is 8-0 against the Bengals? Oh Peyton Manning is 22-1 all time against the AFC North? You don’t say? Guess what? The Bengals shocked the world. Well, except for Ray Lewis. He was the only so-called expert to pick the Bengals on ESPN’s panel of experts. The win puts the Bengals into the playoffs for the 4th straight year and 5 out of the last 6 seasons. Is this the year they get that elusive playoff win? First thing’s first, time to whip up on the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday Night Football. On to the show!

In this week’s show:

We give our best and worst from Monday’s big primetime win over Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos.

The 4 of us weren’t too far off from getting our Bold Predictions from last week correct. The play of the Special Teams on Monday night was spectacular.

Somehow we got on the topic of Andy Dalton and his worthiness. 40 regular season wins in 4 seasons. He’s also done something only 4 other QB’s have done before him, make a 4th consecutive playoff appearance to start his career. Even though he just won on primetime and just beat Peyton Manning, there are still questions that surround him.

We take a look at this AFC North Championship matchup on Sunday night against the Steelers.

We each give our bold predictions and score predictions.

It wouldn’t be Christmas without some Christmas presents! A big shoutout and thanks to Mickey, Scott and AC this year for all the hardwork they put into this show. These guys are without question the best cohosts in the podcasting biz. I can’t thank them enough for all that they do.

Inside the Jungle – Episode 176 – Please Santa!

All we want for Christmas this year Santa? A primetime win. Please!?! The Bengals have been really good this year and have been on the NICE LIST! They drafted really well yet again. They’ve drafted a running back who could potentially be the next bellcow back in the league. They’ve won 9 games for the 4th straight year all while missing two major weapons on offense and their heart and soul (Burfict) on defense. Yes, they’ve had some hiccups here and there, but more importantly this team has been fun and great to watch in 2014. So please Santa, come to Cincinnati a little early this year and give us the gift of a primetime win!

In this week’s show:

We give our best and worst from Sunday’s shutout of the Browns.

How nice was it to shut up Johnny Football? We discuss why the Bengals defense was so effective against the rookie quarterback making his first NFL start.

We look back at the short career of Chris Henry. Wednesday marked the 5th anniversary of his passing.

Peyton Manning and the Broncos aren’t the same Broncos we saw start the year. They’ve transformed into a ground and pound attack. What do the Bengals need to do on Monday night to stop their offense?

Last but not least, we each give our bold predictions and score predictions.

Also, just a reminder that next week’s show will be recorded live on TUESDAY night at 8 pm instead of our normal time on Wednesday.

As an added bonus on Friday, December 19th at 4 pm ET I will be doing a special Friday Fone-In live at CincyJungle.com. Call in Bengals fans and give me your bold predictions, score predictions and more!

Inside the Jungle – Episode 175 – Short of Ideas on Defense

I don’t know if there has been a crazy week ever covering this Bengals team. From losing in spectacular fashion to the Steelers, Marvin’s verbal gaffe, Burfict to IR, McCarron activated, Hue’s desire to have a one-back system, Johnny Football’s first start, can you think of a busier news week surrounding this team? I’m sure it was crazy during the two Super Bowl weeks but for a regular season matchup, this has been a pretty bizarre week.

In this week’s show:

We start the show off by giving our Best and Worst of the game vs Pittsburgh. You can probably guess what we all said…..

Was the Dalton fumble to blame for the loss on Sunday? We debate.

What the hell happened to this vaunted Bengals defense? Did the magic leave with Mike Zimmer this offseason?

What was Marvin Lewis thinking this week on the radio?????

Vontaze Burfict has been placed on Injured Reserve ending his season. How does this defense response?

The Johnny Football Era has begun, how can the Bengals defense confuse him into turning the football over and make mistakes?

We wrapped up the show with our bold prediction, score predictions and shoutouts!

Inside the Jungle – Episode 174 – Steelin a Win in Tampa

Last week was Thanksgiving and I hope that all of you spent Sunday night amending the things you’re giving thanks for this holiday season. This year I’m giving thanks to Marvin Lewis. I’ve never been so thankful of him winning a challenge. I don’t care that he won it illegally by throwing the challenge flag when he couldn’t. Doesn’t matter to me one bit. You play to win the game, kudos Marvin. Your team controls it’s own fate in December, I’m looking forward to seeing how you’ve prepared this team for this stretch run. Why I’m writing this as if I’m having a conversation with Lewis, well, I just don’t know anymore. On to the show!

In this week’s show:

We start the show off by giving our Best and Worst of the game vs Tampa. We can all agree that the “officiating” was not at it’s finest.

Toss Up! Who was worse in the first half? Andy Dalton or Marshall Newhouse? I take the latter. Why? They went out and signed a new lineman. I didn’t see them signing any QB’s due to Dalton’s poor play. Though I made a mistake in the audio claiming that Nate Webster was the most recent former Miami Hurricane to play for the Bengals. It was actually Orien Harris. My bad!

When you look at the Steelers and their schedule you have to think to yourself, “how are they now 11-1 or 12-0”?

We wrapped up the show with our bold prediction, score predictions and shoutouts!

Inside the Jungle – Episode 173 – Giving Thanks

What are you most thankful for about being a Bengals fan? Is it tailgating, hanging out all day Sunday with friends and family? Is it a big win in Houston after losing 5 consecutive games against them. There’s a lot to be thankful on this side of the podcasting desk though, you the fan. I think I can speak for Anthony, Mickey and Scott that the 4 of us are so incredibly thankful for you downloading and supporting our show. Whether it be by you tuning in to the live broadcasts or by subscribing and downloading the podcast each episode, we can’t thank you enough for your continued support of this show. We’re looking forward to December with some big matchups that month. On to Tampa Bay!

In this week’s show:

We start the show off by giving our Best and Worst of the game vs Houston.

How much of an impact will be felt with Andre Smith being put on season ending IR?

Fatal calls in with his question of he night; In terms of the seeding in the AFC compared to New England, Indy, Denver and Pittsburgh, where will the Bengals end up finishing up at the end of the year?

We wrapped up the show with our bold prediction, score predictions and shoutouts!

TIME CHANGE: Next week we will be recording Inside the Jungle on Tuesday night at 8 PM ET here at CincyJungle.com!
