Where It All Started

Today marks the 10 year anniversary of something very special to me. It was exactly 10 years ago my college radio buddies and I hosted our final show together called, On-the-Line. We called it Northwest Ohio’s #1 call in talk show, except no one called in. Despite the lack of phone calls and audience interaction, 88.1 FM WBGU on the campus of Bowling Green State University was the birthplace of my passion, podcasting. It was at BGSU where I joined the Bowling Green Radio Sports Organization and got on the air as a freshmen. It was where I learned microphone techniques and how to edit audio. Pretty much all the skills I use in my podcasting today. It was a place I met some of the best people in the world and I’m forever grateful they helped me find my path 10 years ago.

So feel free to take a listen to what we called the “Invitation Only OTL”. It’s funny going back and listening to this audio and picking out each voice. I’m not sure if we sound 10 years younger, or if the equipment is that much better. It was in fact a legit radio station and not the home studio you may be used to hearing me from. About halfway through the audio you’ll notice some missing parts of the show. That’s because back then the only way to record our shows was by using a small boombox in the studio where we literally had to flip the cassette over to keep recording. My guess is that they no longer use that method at WBGU. Nowadays most people promote their podcasts through social media. Our promotion methods at BGSU? Hanging flyers around campus. 10 years, a lot has changed.

So to Andy Barch, Brian George and Erik Bell and everyone else affiliated with BGRSO and BGSU, thank you for 4.5 years of a lot of fun. Those 10 years sure did fly by!

Roll along you BG Warriors!

SPNT Begins Production on Two New Shows

Thursday Tech Talk and Red vs Red are two new podcasts beginning production this week on SPNT.tv.

The Sports Podcasting Entertainment Network (SPNT.tv) is beginning production on two brand new podcasts this week, Red vs Red and Thursday Tech Talk.

Red vs Red is a podcast devoted to Barclays Premier League soccer with a focus more on Liverpool FC and Manchester United. Seubs is a major Manchester United fan and co-host Mike Smith is a die hard Liverpool FC fan currently living just outside of London. The two met a few years ago via Twitter because they share one other passion, Cincinnati Bengals football.

“I couldn’t be more excited to start this show with Mike. There would be times last year during the Premier League season where we could call each other over Skype and talk for hours about that morning’s (or for him, afternoon’s) matches. No joke we would talk for hours. It really just seemed like the perfect idea to start up a show with a passionate fan like Mike.” says Owner/Program Director Nick Seuberling.

Thursday Tech Talk is another show that’s getting a lot of attention from fans of SPNT.tv. Seubs reunites with an old friend from his Nick Eats Toledo days, camera guy and tech guru Nick Wallace. “Nick is an awesome guy and my favorite part about Nick is his passion for podcasts. He told me last week he listens to 30 podcasts!” says Seuberling. “Nick is a very knowledgeable guy when it comes to smartphones, tech, geeky gadget stuff and I’m really looking forward to working with him each week.”

“I’m excited to use my knowledge of tech and finally put it to good use.” says Wallace, a programmer in Nashville, TN. “I’m looking forward to helping users and gamers navigate this constantly changing world of tech.”

Both Red vs Red and Thursday Tech Talk will be recorded live and can be viewed each week at SPNT.tv/live. The shows will be released initially on SPNT.tv’s website and will eventually be available on the major podcast directories.

The All American Soccer Podcast is also the newest member of the SPNT Podcast Network. Hosted by Hank and Abram, both are passionate football fans (yes I said football) and bring a great perspective to American soccer. Check out their shows today.

If you haven’t already, make sure you follow SPNT on Twitter @spnt_tv and like us on Facebook for future show updates and announcements.

“I am very excited to be working with the Crushers again this summer and to work with a talented play-by-play guy like Andy “Bull” Barch, well it just doesn’t get any better than that.” says SPNT owner Nick Seuberling. “Last summer I provided Andy with some commercials and promos as well as their intro and outro which turned out great. It was nice of the Crushers and Andy to consider us again in 2012.”

“Last year SPNT provided the Crushers with a service that hadn’t been used previously with the franchise and the response we got was tremendous.” says play-by-play voice Andy Barch. “Needless to say working with a true professional like Nick Seuberling is something we’re looking forward to again this year.”

The Lake Erie Crushers season kicks off May 18th as they will host the Schaumburg Boomers at All-Pro Freight Stadium with the first pitch at 7:05 PM.
