I can’t believe this podcast we started up the day after the Bengals signed Terrell Owens (yes it was that long ago) is now starting up its 4th season of production. I NEVER imagined that we would make it this far and better yet, continue to be downloaded by all you fans. We do this show for you and we’re so appreciative of all the support. What an amazing atmosphere on Sunday at Old Trafford as fans of the Red Devils sent Sir Alex Ferguson out in style with a 2-1 win over Swansea. Even more, the parade on Monday had an amazing turnout. It was remarkable to watch on the internet here in the States. It has also been a very good finish to the year for Liverpool who came back from 1-0 to win 3-1 at Fulham thanks to Daniel Sturridge’s hat trick.

This week we had the luxury of talking about some old videos games we enjoy, seems like this is the case every week. This week though I stopped by my local Gamestop and picked up a copy of one of my favorite video games of all time, Modern Warfare 2. The game was originally released in November 2009, hard to believe that game is nearly 4 years old. As I placed a copy on the counter, the man behind it said to me, “Wow you’re the 2nd person to buy that game today.” Just goes to show this game has some staying power despite nearly 4 different versions of Call of Duty since its release.

Over the past few months, off the air, Anthony and I have always given Nick grief because of his lack of a microphone. Manchester United’s loss in the FA Cup on Monday is really no big deal. The fact remains that United are still 15 points clear of City heading into the Manchester Derby this Monday. United haven’t won the F.A. I couldn’t have been a bigger Everton fan over the weekend. Thanks to the Blues 2-0 win over the Noisy Neighbours, United now have a 15 point gap at the top of the table with 27 points left. 90% of my day just got eliminated. That’s right. I use Google Reader everywhere. It is my home page on every single browser I run on the 3 computers I use on a daily basis. I am an AVID user of Google Reader so to hear the news that Google is shutting it down, really hurts. I’ve been searching for a replacement but I haven’t found one yet. What’s worse is that all of my podcast feeds will now need to be moved to another app on my Android phone. I know I know, first world problems I get it. But when something becomes a habit, it’s very hard to break and not having Google Reader around is going to sting come July 1st.

There is no freaking way that was a Red Card. If that’s a red card, I’m quitting playing soccer. How is it possible that a guy who is LOOKING AT THE BALL be sent off? He didn’t know that Arbeloa (or whoever that whiny wimp from Real Madrid was) was coming at him. United were cruising until I witnessed by far the WORST call ever in Champions League history. Worst. Just makes you wonder how much Mr. Turkish referee Cuneyt Cakir was paid off. If United would have lost it ON THE PITCH, then I tip my cap to Madrid and say good luck the rest of the way. I can’t shake this one though because the referee basically stole the game from us. Yeah I said us. Stole it from Sir Alex, stole it from the fans of Manchester United, hell stole it from the Premier League itself. What a joke. I hope this man never refs a game again.

After a few weeks off Thursday Tech Talk is back as Nick and Nick discuss the latest PS4 news. What were your thoughts on the news? Will you be getting a PS4? As someone who just recently purchased a PS3 I can safely say there is no way I’m getting a PS4. Liverpool found themselves in great position over the weekend to take 3 full points from one of the league’s toughest foes in Manchester City. Daniel Sturridge has been magnificent since coming over from Chelsea. He’s helped shoulder the goal scoring load and helped make guys like Downing and Henderson get into good form. Then you have Pepe Reina who single handedly gave Manchester City the lifeline they needed to escape out of this fixture with a 1-1 draw. Ugh. The gap going into that game for City had been 10 points. Now United’s lead over the Champs stands at 9 heading into a tough home fixture vs Everton and Champions League play starting back up next week. It has been a few weeks but we’re back after Mike’s voyage to the United States. Liverpool find themselves in a decent position in the table just a few points back from European play next season. Though they fell flat on their faces over the weekend to Oldham in the F.A. Cup. United meanwhile continue to roll in cup play and advanced over Fulham. They’ll play Fulham again on Saturday at the home of Michael Jackson’s statue. Liverpool meanwhile have a big fixture on Super Bowl Sunday against Manchester City. Let’s hope they can take some points from the Mario Balotelli-less Blues.

From everything I’ve watched, heard, read, CES had a down year in 2013. UNLESS you liked headphones, iPhone cases and 4k televisions. It wasn’t a complete bummer though. We got to finally use our Boston accents on our show when talking about Dish Network’s Hoppah, er Hopper. Apparently this really great DVR won Best of CES per CNET.com. Really? A DVR set top box? Huh. Must have been an awesome CES. Now where are my Lego’s?

2012 was a great year to be a Bengals fan! They made the playoffs in back to back years for the first time in 30 years. That’s amazing. The Bengals are an up and coming team STILL and they play in a division where the rest of the players are turning into grumpy old men. Ed Reed, Troy Palamalu can’t play forver. Its guys like Ray Rice, Antonio Brown, Mike Wallace that scare me in the AFC North. We get it, the playoff outcome is not what he had hoped for but let’s be real here fans. It could be a LOT worse. We’d love to hear your thoughts this offseason on what the Bengals should do to strengthen the team so please email us or leave us feedback on iTunes, via email or on Twitter. Manchester United wins the Northwest Derby 2-1 over Liverpool but yet in the 2nd half you would have thought Liverpool were the team a top the Barclay’s Premier League table. Ok maybe that’s a little far fetched but regardless Liverpool were a much better team in the 2nd half as they brought on their newly signed striker from Chelsea, Daniel Sturridge. Couple that with some injuries that United sustained in the back 4 (Vidic…again) and what should have been a comfortable win for United turned into a squeaker. At the time, United’s win pushed them 10 points clear of 2nd place City. Here we are in mid January and United have taken 55 points from a possible 66. That is outstanding. To think, they haven’t been healthy much at all this year, Rooney, Vidic, Anderson, Nani, Young, Kagawa just goes to show the true depth of this United squad.

Well that didn’t go as planned Irish fans. Kudos to the senior class, the coaching staff, the players for an excellent 12-0 season (ok 12-1). You made Notre Dame relevant again (ahem Rick Reilly). The Irish were clearly outclassed, outperformed, outhustled, everything that could go wrong, did. It just wasn’t our day as Irish fans. Well it’s been a month since we last recorded the podcast. Notre Dame STILL hasn’t played their bowl game. Can Monday get here any quicker? It feels like forever ago that Notre Dame wrapped up their 12-0 regular season at USC. Monday night, the Irish will take on the champs of the SEC the Crimson Tide of Alabama. The Irish who are ranked higher and have one less loss than Bama surprisingly are 10 point underdogs in this game. I remember the last time that Notre Dame were double digit dogs, against Oklahoma. Remember what happened? Brian Kelly is looking to add his name to Notre Dame lore as another head coach who won a National Championship in his third season like the many Irish greats before him. The last time we spoke the Bengals needed to beat Pittsburgh to get into the postseason. Check. They also needed to beat the Ravens to clinch double digit wins for the third time under Marvin Lewis. Check. Now the Bengals have a prime opportunity to end their most daunting streak, winning a postseason game for the first time in forever. The Bengals are facing a familiar postseason foe, the Houston Texans. This same Houston Texans team that knocked them out of the postseason one year ago. Can the Bengals get over the hump? One of the most memorable things about that magazine was the posters. This week marks the last edition of the long running magazine, 25 years! I honestly didn’t even know that magazine existed. Well it wasn’t pretty, but a win is a win and that’s all that matters at this time of year. The Bengals historically have not played well on the West Coast but to win in SD despite not having your best day on offense is a huge step for this team. Have to give it up to this defense though. They have allowed only 1 TD in the last 3 games, a fluke TD in garbage time vs the Raiders. Now “America’s Team” comes to PBS and they are in need of a win just as much as the Bengals are. Here’s to hoping that the Bengals defense has a huge game against Romo, he’s due for a bad one!

We now know the opponent. The Irish now have a chance to knock off the defending champion Alabama Crimson Tide. Two programs with deep history, legendary coaches, players and more. Nick Saban has made it to this game now 4 times, 3 with Bama. Brian Kelly has guided only one team to a BCS bowl and didn’t even coach in the game. Either way, it should be a great game, one for the ages! On Saturday night, the Irish will also make history when hopefully Manti Te’o becomes the first true defensive player to win a Heisman Trophy.

Microsoft announced pricing this week for the Surface Pro tablet. It’s a very pricey tablet/pc that doesn’t come with a keyboard. Who knew that the Wii U would be so popular. Over 400K units sold last week breaking the record held by the Wii. 750K Xbox 360′s sold last week, and 500K PS3′s sold during the holiday weekend. Oh yeah it must have been Black Friday. It only took one pass play for the tone to be set Sunday. Palmer’s first dropback, BOOM, Geno Atkins threw him to the ground. Last week we spoke about former Chelsea manager Roberto Di Matteo and his sacking. Now this week Mark Hughes and QPR are through. It’s not quite the silly season yet but manager movement midseason is gearing up. Who is next? At least QPR hired a manager that is pretty good in Harry Redknapp. Liverpool struggled over the weekend to a 0-0 draw with Swansea while United fell behind in the 2nd half against QPR only to rally for a win. Then today RvP scores just 33 seconds into the game vs West Ham, which turned out to be the decisive goal. So far this year, Liverpool and United are 0-2-0 against Spurs after the Reds fall 2-1 today at White Hart Lane.

12-0. How does it feel IRISHNATION!?! With a 22-13 win over the Trojans, the Irish sealed their trip to Miami January 7th. There they will most likely play the winner of the SEC Championship game between Alabama and Georgia who are both ranked 2nd and 3rd respectively in the BCS standings. How many of you thought at the beginning of the year that the Irish would find themselves 12-0? I know we didn’t. Lots and lots to be thankful for, like Brian Kelly coming to Notre Dame three years ago. Like Manti Te’o staying for his senior season. Like Theo Riddick’s ability to hit the circle button and spin his way out of the backfield vs USC. It’s been a long time coming, and now we wait!

The Bengals did what they were supposed to do. They went on the road and took out a Chiefs team that’s mired in misery. Don’t we know that pain Bengals fans? It’s just nice to know that fans of other teams outside of the Queen City have to experience this pain. With a 38-0 win over Wake Forest on Senior Day, coupled with losses by Kansas State and Oregon, Notre Dame finds itself at the peak of the college football landscape. Feels like forever ago since we’ve been able to utter that phrase. 19 long years folks. 1993 was the last time that the #1 sign above Grace Hall was lit up for football. Hard to believe that the College Football Hall of Fame, located in South Bend, has never hoisted the Notre Dame helmet into the #1 ranking. The building opened in 1995. Count ‘em, 19 years. I was in 7th grade the last time Notre Dame was #1. How about being the first team in NCAA/BCS history to be #1 in the BCS rankings and #1 in graduation rates. So I guess you can win at Notre Dame and graduate your players after all. The Irish are on the doorstep, inching one step closer to becoming Notre Dame legends.

The Bengals got a huge boost this weekend with a huge or shall we say, GIANT, win over the G-Men 31-13 Sunday at PBS. The tone was set early as Andy “Red” Dalton ended the game with an early strike to AJ Green to go up 7-0. Guess he had a pretty good idea about the size of those holes in the Giants secondary. Thank god we have the best WR in the game. Next up for the Bengals, a nice little jaunt to the middle of the country as they visit the struggling Kansas City Chiefs who are coming off an impressive 3 point overtime loss in Pittsburgh Monday night.

I understand that the most important thing is to “Just Win Baby”, but that win Saturday night vs Boston College? Insert Homer Simpson sound byte “BOOOOOOOOORING”. Look I’m the biggest Irish homer there is but c’mon a 21-6 win over Boston freakin College isn’t going to help your National Title chances. I understand that K-State and Oregon haven’t played nearly the schedule that the Irish have, I get that. But when the human element is 2/3 of the process, at some point you need to put on a show, dazzle some folks. This weekend, Senior Day, may be the Irish’s last chance to be “impressive”. Manchester United have really picked up their form of late. The last 2 weeks have helped set a marker in the Premier League and in Champions League play. The Luck of the Irish. That’s what it boils down to. The Irish got a break on an iffy pass interference call, a missed double jersey number call if that’s what you want to call it. Either way, the Irish squeak one out versus the Pittsburgh Panthers. Whew. 9-0. It sure was ugly. But in the words of the late Al Davis, “Just Win Baby”. That’s exactly what the Irish continue to do here in 2012. How many of you thought THAT was possible this year? Be honest! This has been one of the more memorable Irish seasons in quite some time.
